Before Christmas, we took a day trip down to Kamakura. Kamakura is about 1.5 hours south of Tokyo on the train and is known for being the seat of the Shogunate (the Samuri government). One of the most well-known temples in Kamakura is the temple of the Giant Buddha.
The Giant Buddha lives up to his name - he is REALLY big.
There is also a large temple, the Kaikōzan Jishōin Hase-dera (海光山慈照院長谷寺) in Kamakura, overlooking the ocean. The Hase-dera is actually a compilation of temples.
There are more Hase-dera pictures in the next post.

You're right, the statue is GIANT! Kudos to you for capturing that in photos :)
I visited Kamakura my first weekend in Tokyo - did you go inside it? You didn't miss much if you didn't. I still have my mini Buddha on my desk.
Yeah! We went inside - I'll have to post those pictures as well.
