Women Rock!

Last night, I went to my first meeting of the Foreign Women Lawyer's Association here in Tokyo. It was amazing to see how many talented and powerful women there are running Japanese business. We had senior partners at international law firms, general counsel for international corporations, junior associates like me. It was a really empowering experience.

The talk last night was entitled "Gender, Family and the Role of Law." It was a very interesting discussion about the gendered division of "household" or "unpaid" labor in society, and the challenges the government will face with changing demographics (the aging population in both the US and Japan) and the "feminization" of the work force.

The result was a great chat with Jen this morning (check out her blog and a discussion of these issues here).
