From the Golden Temple we walked down the road to the Zen temple Ryoanji. The rock garden there is "the quintessence of Zen art." (I just really love saying "quintessence.")
Outside the actual temple area is a beautiful garden - here you can see a crane cross the pond (click to enlarge).
From the Ryoanji, we took the bus to the start of the Philosopher's Path. This was probably our favorite part of Kyoto - just a relaxed path along the canal lined with little shops and cafes.
