Mitsutoge to Kawaguchi-ko

We kept the Mama hopping on her trip to Japan! The day after arriving home from our Kyoto/Hakone adventure, we set out with some friends on a hike from Mitsutoge to Kawaguchi-ko.
It was a great hiking day - a bit cool - but that was good for keeping up a brisk pace.

Here's the whole crew at the top of the climb up from Mitsutoge.
From there we hiked across the ridge to Kawaguchi-ko and were (yet again!) treated to views of Fuji-san. At first he only peaked out from among the clouds.

Finally, he emerged, and we were able to witness this rare cloud formation over the peak. You can check out another picture (not the same day) of this cloud here. It is called a lenticular cloud, and is only formed over tall mountains when the temperature difference between the base and the peak is very large.
